カエコ手芸店｜こぎん刺し作家
岡山県倉敷市出身。
2012 年より制作を始め、2016 年より作家活動を開始。
こぎん刺しは、江戸時代から青森県津軽地方に伝わる伝統的な刺し子技法のひとつです。もともとは麻布に麻糸で刺し、保温性を高めるための実用的な手仕事として生まれました。その後、藍染の麻布に白 い木綿糸で刺す様式が主流となり、青と白の美しいコントラストをもつこぎん刺しが数多く生み出されました。
現代では素材や色使いも多様化し、色彩豊かな作品も多く見られます。凛とした美しさと手仕事ならで はの温かみを大切にしながら、時代を超えて人々の暮らしに寄り添う作品を制作しています。
制作の場から日々、布の縦糸の本数を数えながら、一針ひと針手を動かしていると、心が静かに満たさ れていきます。
制作している模様の多くは、数百年以上前から受け継がれてきた伝統柄です。刺し進めるうちに浮かび上がる模様は驚くほどモダンで美しく、当時の人々への尊敬の気持ちが深まります。
やさしい手触りと、ぬくもり。昔の人々もまた、誰かをあたためるために、日々手を動かしていたので はないでしょうか。
名もなき誰かが繋いできたこの素晴らしい手仕事を、私もまた、そっと次の世代へ繋いでいけたら嬉し く思っています。

Kaeko Shugeiten | Kogin Embroidery Artist
Born in Kurashiki, Okayama, Japan.
Began creating works in 2012 and started professional activities as an artist in 2016.
Kogin-zashi is a traditional form of sashiko stitching that has been passed down in the Tsugaru region of Aomori since the Edo period. Originally, it was a practical handcraft stitched with hemp thread on linen fabric to provide warmth and durability.
Later,the style evolved into white cotton thread stitched on indigo-dyed linen, creating the beautiful blue-and-white contrast now associated with traditional kogin embroidery.
Today,kogin-zashi is created using a wide variety of fabrics and threads, often in colorful contemporary styles. While preserving its dignified beauty and warmth, the craft continues to accompany everyday life across generations.
From the Studio
Each day, as I count the vertical threads of the cloth and move the needle stitch by stitch, I find myself feeling calm and fulfilled.
Many of the patterns I create are traditional motifs that were born hundreds of years ago. As the patterns gradually emerge through the stitching, I am always struck by their modern beauty, deepening my respect for the people who created them long ago.
The gentle texture and warmth of handmade work.
I often imagine that people in every era moved their hands with care in order to bring warmth to someone else’s life.
I would be happy if I could quietly carry this beautiful handcraft — passed down by countless unnamed people — on to the next generation.
